How to buy on 1688 from Uzbekistan: a step-by-step scheme without a Chinese card

1688 is a wholesale marketplace for China's domestic market: sellers take no foreign cards and ship nowhere abroad. Here is how importers work around it.

Prices on 1688 are noticeably lower than on AliExpress because it is China's domestic wholesale market. The flip side: the platform is not built for a foreign buyer — Chinese payment methods only, delivery within China only, communication in Chinese only. So between you and the seller you need an intermediary inside the country.

Six steps

  • Find the product and the seller. Look at how long the shop has traded, its rating and transaction volume — brand-new shops with perfect reviews are suspicious.
  • Send the links to your intermediary. They check the seller, confirm stock, the price for your quantity and the production lead time.
  • Pay the intermediary — they pay the seller inside China by a local method.
  • The seller ships to the intermediary's warehouse in China: domestic delivery takes 2–5 days.
  • The warehouse receives, counts and photographs every item. Defects and wrong items surface here, not after the border.
  • Everything accumulated leaves as one lot to Uzbekistan by the chosen mode, with official clearance.

Where money gets lost

Three typical spots. First, the minimum order: 1688 lists a per-piece price for carton quantities, and a «cheap» item costs very differently when you buy five. Second, volumetric weight: light bulky goods are charged by volume, so a box of pillows can cost more to ship than a box of tools. Third, no warehouse inspection: if the intermediary does not photograph the intake, there is nothing left to argue with the seller about once the goods have shipped.
